Introduction: Five years of guarantee is offered, for regular hospital use, ensuring that no service or replacement costs need to be made during the first five, and probably many more, years. |

Bone chips with intact trabecular structure: It mills fresh frozen bone with equal ease, which avoids the risk of defrosting too much precious donor bone stock prior to surgery. This results in time and money saving efficiency during surgery. |

Three types of milling drums for each type of indication: The fine milling drum is designed to produce small bone chips for distal femoral grafting. The extra-fine milling drum is designed to produce extra-small bone chips for spinal grafting and correction of small defects. |

FAQ
Q: What is it made of?
A: The Noviomagus Bone Mill and its milling drums are made of solid surgical stainless steel, hardened where necessary.
Q: Is it magnetic?
A: No. Should a particle break off a milling drums’ tooth, for example because of accidentally milling metal objects, X-ray should be used to detect the particle.
Q: Why is it better than other bone mills?
A: This bone mill has no aluminium housing, and no sheet metal milling drums. All parts are made of solid materials, that are extremely wear resistant. The bone is cut, rather than scraped off. The ratio between milling drum size and the handle, and the spirally positioned teeth on the milling drums render a smooth movement without lifting the entire table because the bone gets stuck.
Q: What is the particle size?
A: The particle sizes of the chips are not constant, as they are dependent on the bone quality and geometry, amongst others. The cross section of the particles cut from solid bone (so not on the edges of a femoral head) is about the same as the cross section of the teeth of the milling drum. Particles that are cut off the edge of the bone do of course have different shapes. The combination renders a mixture of different particle sizes and shapes, which for bone impaction grafting would be what is desired. We have done some non-official testing in the past, and the mean sizes that came from that particular test are as follows.
Milling Drum Extra Coarse: cross section 8x8mm, mean length 10-15mm
Milling Drum Coarse: cross section 5x5mm, mean length 8-10mm
Milling Drum Fine: cross section 3x3mm, mean length 5-8mm
Milling Drum Extra-Fine: cross section 2x2mm, mean length 3-5mm
Q: What size of milling drum do I need?
A: Different milling drums are used for different applications.
Milling Drum Coarse: acetabulum and proximal femur
Milling Drums Fine: proximal and distal femur
Milling Drum Extra-Fine: distal femur and spine
Q: What is the guarantee?
A: We offer a five year guarantee on all parts, including the milling drums’ teeth, for regular hospital use. For bone bank or other intensive applications we offer two years guarantee.
Q: Do you have a distributor in the US?
A: We do not have an appointed distributor in the US. We ship directly to any country in the world.
Q: What are your shipping terms?
A: Spierings Orthopaedics does send all their goods ex-works, which means that the customer is responsible for arranging the shipment, and for possible loss or damage under shipment. If we are to arrange shipment for your orders I need your confirmation on the following:
1) That we can arrange the shipment via our SkyNet account, at your cost;
2) That we hold no responsibility for possible damage or loss;
3) If you want the shipment insured for possible damage or loss;
4) If this confirmation counts for all future shipments to or for your company.
Q: Do you have any references?
A: We do have several customers throughout the world that have been using the Noviomagus Bone Mill for many years. Amongst them we can mention the Radbout Medical Centre (the Netherlands), the Exeter Hospital (UK), Queensland Bone Bank (Australia), Perth Bone & Tissue Bank (Australia), Musceloskeletal Transplant Foundation (MTF, United States), and several other bone banks and hospitals.
Q: Does it come motorised?
A: The bone mill does not come motorised, for a few reasons. The choice has been made to keep the design as simple as possible, to be able to offer a product that does not need servicing or refurbishing. Also, it only takes 30 seconds to mill a femoral head (we have heard of one clinic that does it in 12), and the time involved in attaching a motor etc. would expectedly only increase the production time of the bone graft.
